The US Unemployment Rate - Seasonally AdjustedEarlier this month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the US unemployment rate fell from 9% in October to 8.6% in November. While this may seem like an improvement, some argue that these numbers are misleading. The issue, according to The Financial Times’s Edward Luce, is that so many job seekers have become discouraged and have given up, that they’re no longer included in the BLS’s calculation of the unemployed. Some good data just came out about small business. First, the indicators measuring ‘optimism’ rose from 90 percent to 92 percent. Hiring expectations also rose to seven percent up from three percent.
