From my past work experiences and internships, I have
acquired a diverse assortment of skills and qualities, in which I would hope to
contribute to your company or firm. However, I am constantly challenging myself and
seeking new learning experiences to enhance my skills and knowledge of the business
world. I am ready for a valuable learning environment as I
hope to experience more of the business world, specifically in fashion,
public relations, advertising, and media.
Previously, I had the opportunity to intern at ID Public Relations in Los
Angeles. Working at ID offered me a chance to be fully immersed into the public
relations world as I was given a substantial amount of responsibility inside
and outside the office. Inside the office, I was specifically assigned to
intern under publicist Bebe Lerner and her team, who represents some of the
most well-known writers and filmmakers in the industry. Moreover, as time
went on, I was entrusted with more projects and responsibility from a variety
of the other publicists within the firm, and eventually was able to even manage
the front desk and train new interns. IDPR also gave me the chance to
cover a number of events outside the office, such as covering Lea Michele at
the series premiere of Glee, managing the red carpet for Summit Entertainment
at the premiere of Sorority Row, and spending a day at Nickelodeon Studios
overlooking Miranda Cosgrove's interviews, to name a few. I realize these
experiences were incredibly unique for a novice intern in that I was allowed to
interact and work one on one with the publicists and their clients. I
learned what is required of employees in this industry from engagement in the
events, as opposed to working behind a desk.
I was also able to experience a completely different area of the public
relations and advertising world at Bismarck Phillips Communications and Media-a
fashion public relations firm. Some of the responsibilities I held at BPCM
included working at off-site events, working hands-on with stylists, handling
the administrative tasks of the firm, working with the digital sample tracking
software Fashion GPS, and monitoring the front desk as a receptionist.
Most recently, I have gotten PR and marketing experience in the music industry
at The Loft. The Loft is University of California, San Diego's largest and
most lucrative venue for music, art, and all other forms of entertainment.
This internship was very hands on and independent. I was given all
the responsibilities of a full-time Marketing Assistant, such as writing and
distributing press releases, handling the marketing for assigned events,
assembling press kits, coordinating Meet-and-Greets for artists and/or bands,
and independently overseeing the events and shows themselves. My marketing
strategies for the Dark Dark Dark show yielded an 80% better turnout than
expected, as well as leading to a sold out Young the Giant show. I also
contributed in the recruiting and scouting of
artists for our Wonderland Spring Event 2011.
In addition to these internships, I have worked an assortment of retail jobs-including
American Apparel and J.Crew-in which I have developed a keen interest in the industry
of fashion along with my desire to work in PR. At American Apparel, I
graduated from sales associate to a merchandiser in a matter of months,
organizing the arrangement of the store and coordinating the outfits displayed.
At J.Crew, specifically when I worked at the newly opened collection store
in Malibu, I was able to gain experience in working with and dressing many high
profile clients.
It's one thing to bring experiences to the table; however, I believe it's more
important to have a character and will to succeed that permeate every aspect of
one's performance. I'm proud of my track record with the companies and
firms I've had the privilege of working with and I look forward to meeting the
challenges of the next chapter in my career journey.
