I’m a passionate, forward thinking woman looking to take my experience and career to the next level. I’m a tech savvy, hard working individual with the ambition to help any business strive.
Alpha House of Tampa, located in South Tampa, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist homeless pregnant and parenting women. It remains the only maternity residence in Hillsborough County for women in crisis. I am the Development Department’s Project Coordinator and I’ve gained more experience than I ever imagined. This phase of my career began January 2011, and I became the only Development Department employee within one month of hire. This was a crucial juncture as the initial planning of the yearly 500-guest New Lives fundraiser was just beginning. This marked the most prosperous New Lives event in nine years and I’ve continued this success in many other fundraisers, private events, and major events.
The projects and events I’ve organized over the past year provided me with a wealth of knowledge that would have normally taken years to attain. Working at a nonprofit is demanding but rewarding and I appreciate every aspect. During this past year I took initiative to implement and design a new website for the agency using Wordpress as a backend for updating and maintaining Alpha House’s website. The results have only been positive; more online traffic, a higher percentage of online donations, and Alpha House is saving thousands of dollars on website maintenance and development. I initiated a free email campaign account through Mailchimp where we transitioned a paper newsletter to an E-Newsletter, created a volunteer E-Newsletter that I design and copy write, and we now have a visually aesthetic and cleaner way of sending event invitations. The use of technology I’ve implemented for daily tasks has saved Alpha House countless dollars by eliminating a majority of bulk mailing, postage, and labor.
On a daily basis I wear more than one hat; I process donations using the donor database Results Plus, write thank you letters to monetary and in-kind donors and volunteers, coordinate volunteer inquiries and activities with the Programs Department, and design and copy write all marketing materials for the agency. I’ve captured a new community of supporters by utilizing technology and social networking platforms. I’ve doubled Alpha House’s exposure through Facebook, write weekly blog posts on the website, post the latest agency news, and distribute vital information pertaining to events, volunteer activities, and donations.
Previous to the Alpha House of Tampa I was a Mac Specialist at Apple, Inc. and Visual Merchandiser at J.Crew. I interned for Peak Biety Branding + Advertising as a copywriting intern and Unique Event Designs as a Wedding Consultant Assistant. These opportunities strengthened my interests and skills in writing, organizing, planning, and branding a product. Following graduation in 2008 I worked as a Field Organizer on Obama for America’s Florida Campaign for Change. Overall I built, trained, and managed over 200 volunteers, conducted organizational meetings, and developed a “Women for Obama” event where I addressed the field pitch and introduced Valerie Biden Owens, sister of Vice President Joe Biden. The success of the work I did helped lower the margin six points in the Democrat versus Republican voters in Polk County, and also contributed to over 8,000 voter registrations in the county out of 120,000 throughout the state of Florida.
I studied at Florida State University and hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Textiles and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Communications. I studied Apparel Design, Merchandising, Textiles, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, and Mass Media. My extracurricular campus activities involved working with a collegiate volunteer group, CHICS (Caring and Helping in Community Service). We worked with national and local organizations; Camp Boggy Creek in central Florida is one I hold dear to my heart and hope to work with again one day.
